Other tools ask people to get their phone out, scan a QR code, open a link and enter a code, and then they get distracted by notifications. With StreamAlive, they type in the chat.

In a Teams or Zoom meeting, “Type in the chat.” is sent in the chat and appears in the poll on the shared screen, which asks “How do you vote in this poll?” Everyone else’s answers follow.

That’s the only instruction your audience needs. Nobody picks up a phone to vote, so notifications never get the chance to pull them away, and their attention stays with you.

We used to tell people to put their phones away so they wouldn’t be distracted, then later ask them to pull them out again to scan a QR code. That never sat right with us. StreamAlive removed that contradiction completely.

How to run a live poll in Zoom or Teams.

  1. You let StreamAlive into your meeting and share your screen.
  2. Your audience types 1, 2 or 3 in the meeting chat. That’s all they do.

    How do I run a live poll in Zoom?

    Create the poll in StreamAlive, connect StreamAlive to your Zoom meeting with the StreamAlive app for Zoom or the meeting link, then share your screen and pick the StreamAlive window. Ask people to type their choice in the Zoom chat. Every vote moves the bars as it’s sent.

    Doesn’t Zoom already have polls?

    It does. Zoom’s polls open in a separate window for each participant, and you share the results afterwards. StreamAlive’s polls are voted on in the meeting chat, fill in on your shared screen or your PowerPoint slide as people vote, can take answers you didn’t list, and come with themes, AI-written questions and a report after the session.

    Can you run a live poll in a Microsoft Teams meeting?

    Yes. Teams has its own polls, which people answer in a pop-up. With StreamAlive, people vote in the Teams chat instead, and the results update on your shared screen or your PowerPoint slide, in your own colors.

    How do I add a live poll to PowerPoint?

    Install the StreamAlive add-in, add a live poll to a slide, connect StreamAlive to your Teams or Zoom meeting and present in Slide Show. When the slide is up, answers typed in the meeting chat move the bars on your slide.

    Can I run a live poll in Google Meet or with Google Slides?

    Yes. In Google Meet, connect StreamAlive with the meeting link and people answer in the Meet chat. Google Slides can’t show live content inside a slide, so StreamAlive gives you a quick link to paste on your slide. Clicking it while you present opens the poll in a browser tab: connect StreamAlive to your meeting from there and share that tab.

    How do people vote?

    By typing in the meeting chat: the option’s number (1, 2, 3), its letter (A, B, C) or its words. If you allow more than one answer, they separate them with commas: “1, 3”.

    What if I don’t know the options in advance?

    Use a poll without options (StreamAlive calls them Open-Ended Polls). Each new answer becomes a bar, labelled in the words it was typed in, and the same answer typed again, in any case or with a small typo, makes its bar longer.

    Do participants need an app, an account or a QR code?

    Not online. In Zoom, Teams and Google Meet they type in the meeting chat they’re already using. In a room, people open StreamAlive’s browser chat with a QR code or a short link and code, still with no app or account.

    Why does StreamAlive need to join my meeting?

    It reads the meeting chat so it can turn votes into the poll. It joins the way a note-taking app does, and you admit it. It doesn’t record your meeting and has no access to your video, audio or shared screen.

    Can votes be anonymous?

    In the meeting chat, everyone sees who wrote what, as they always do. For anonymous answers, use StreamAlive’s browser chat: you can hide names from other participants, or from presenters too.

    Can I keep offensive answers off the screen?

    Yes. A profanity filter keeps offensive words off the screen, and you can hide any answer yourself while the poll is running.

    Does it work for hybrid and in-person sessions?

    Yes. People in the room answer in StreamAlive’s browser chat on a phone or laptop, and people online answer in the meeting chat. Both feed the same poll.

    Is there a free plan?
