A session in the room. People type answers in StreamAlive’s browser chat on their phones and StreamAlive turns them into a poll on the room’s screen. You can type your own answer on the phone.

To poll a room as usual:
Ask for a show of hands.
Wait for the microphone.
Hear from the front row.
Miss the rest of the room.3
To poll it with StreamAlive:
Type in the chat.
To: EveryoneType a messageType message here…Type in the chat.
The usual way: ask for a show of hands, wait for the microphone and hear from the front row. With StreamAlive, everyone in the room types in the browser chat and the results go up on the screen.
Nearly everyone has a phone, and typing is quicker than a show of hands. People who would never take the microphone answer as easily as anyone, and the results go up on the screen for the whole room.
How to run StreamAlive in a room.
People in the room answer in StreamAlive’s browser chat. It works on phones, tablets and laptops, and there’s nothing to install.
When I first tried StreamAlive’s browser chat I wasn’t sure if it would help engage students any differently, but it turned my class from a handful of participants to everyone participating, whether it was the shy students or the ones who thought they were too cool to give their opinions.
They scan the QR code on your screen, or go to chat.streamalive.com and enter the session code. Then they type their name, or stay anonymous, and they’re in the chat. It works on phones, tablets and laptops.
Do people need to install an app or create an account?
No. StreamAlive’s browser chat runs in the browser, with no app to install and no account to create.
Can people answer anonymously?
Yes. People can join anonymously, unless you ask for their email to join. The browser chat is also where anonymous questions come in.
Can people see each other’s messages?
That’s up to you. In the session’s chat settings, choose whether people see each other’s chat messages, and separately whether they see each other’s questions.
Can people sign in with our company or school account?
Yes. In the session’s chat settings you can switch on single sign-on, or ask people for their email to join and only let in addresses from your company’s or school’s domains.
How do I collect questions from the room?
Ask people to type their questions in the chat at any time. StreamAlive’s AI collects them into a list, even without a question mark, so nobody has to wait for the microphone.
What if some people are online?
Use a hybrid session. People in the room use the browser chat and people online use their meeting chat, and both feed the same interaction.
A Session Pack takes up to 250 participants per session, Pro up to 1,000 under its fair use policy, and Scale has larger limits. StreamAlive has been tested live with more than 45,000 participants: expecting more than your plan allows? Talk to us.
Yes. Sessions with up to five participants are free, with every interaction included and no card needed. Paid plans start at $100 for a pack of 4 sessions, and Pro is $75 a month, billed annually.
