We used to tell people to put their phones away so they wouldn’t be distracted, then later ask them to pull them out again to scan a QR code. That never sat right with us. StreamAlive removed that contradiction completely.

How to run StreamAlive for a hybrid audience.

People in the room use StreamAlive’s browser chat and people online keep using their meeting chat. You run one interaction for both.

  1. Add a hybrid session

    In StreamAlive, add a session and pick Hybrid. Enter the meeting link for your online platform, such as Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, Twitch or YouTube Live.

  2. Press Present

    StreamAlive opens its presentation screen in a new tab. Depending on the platform, you may be asked to admit the StreamAlive bot to your online meeting.

  3. Share the screen

    Share the StreamAlive tab with your online audience in your meeting tool, and show it on the projector for the room.

  4. Invite the room

    Put the QR code on screen, or tell people to go to chat.streamalive.com and enter the session code. If you want everyone to have the same experience, people online can use that chat too.

  5. Start your question

    Start a question on your screen. Answers from the browser chat and from the meeting chat land on the same poll, cloud or map.

Questions about StreamAlive for hybrid events

How does a hybrid session work?

People in the room open StreamAlive’s browser chat with a QR code or a short link and a code, and people online keep using their Zoom, Teams, Meet, YouTube Live or Twitch chat. StreamAlive reads both and puts every answer on one screen.

Do online attendees need to use the browser chat?

No. They can type in the meeting chat they’re already using. If you’d like everyone to have the same experience, they can join the browser chat too.

Which online platforms work?

Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Twitch and YouTube Live.

Do people need an app or an account?

No. The browser chat runs in the browser, with no app to install and no account to create. To know who’s in the room, the session’s chat settings can ask for an email to join, only let in your own domains, or use single sign-on.

Can people answer anonymously?

Yes, in the browser chat: people can join anonymously, unless you ask for their email. In the meeting chat, everyone sees who wrote what, as they always do.

Can people in the room see each other’s messages?

That’s up to you. In the session’s chat settings, choose whether people in the browser chat see each other’s messages, and separately whether they see each other’s questions.

How do I share the screen with both audiences?

Share the StreamAlive tab in your meeting tool for the people online, and show the same screen on the projector or TV for the room.

How many people can take part?

A Session Pack takes up to 250 participants per session, Pro up to 1,000 under its fair use policy, and Scale has larger limits. StreamAlive has been tested live with more than 45,000 participants: expecting more than your plan allows? Talk to us.
