With Pigeonhole Live, people get their phone out, go to pigeonhole.at and enter a passcode, and then get distracted by notifications. With StreamAlive, they type in the chat.

Pigeonhole’s Zoom and Teams apps open a panel inside the meeting, and it pitches that as a replacement for the chat box. StreamAlive takes the answers from the chat itself.

The fact that StreamAlive’s interactions are powered by the chat is huge for us. There’s no second screen, no apps, no QR codes. People stay focused on the session instead of figuring out the tech.

Which one fits your sessions?

Pigeonhole Live is the stronger choice for conferences, moderated Q&A and translation. StreamAlive is for meetings and webinars where everyone should answer in the chat they’re already in.

Choose StreamAlive if…

  • People should answer in the chat they’re already in. Pigeonhole’s apps open a panel inside the meeting, and it pitches them as a replacement for the chat box. StreamAlive turns what people type in the chat into the result.
  • Your Teams meetings aren’t all scheduled, or have guests. Pigeonhole’s Teams app works in scheduled meetings only, and outside guests can’t see it. StreamAlive reads the chat, so anyone who can type there can answer.
  • You meet in Google Meet. Pigeonhole’s apps cover Zoom, Teams and Webex, but not Meet. StreamAlive reads the Meet chat.
  • You want the room summed up while it’s still talking. Press the lightbulb and StreamAlive’s AI lists the highlights, the popular opinion and the quotes worth reading out.

Choose Pigeonhole Live if…

  • You run a conference with an agenda. Pigeonhole’s event format has an agenda, tracks, speaker profiles, and a Q&A and polls for each session.
  • Questions need filtering before they reach the screen. Pigeonhole can hold, edit or dismiss questions, assign them to admins and reply privately, and a moderator can work from a separate panel.
  • Your attendees speak different languages. Pigeonhole’s AI Translation turns questions, answers and comments into up to 54 languages as they arrive. It’s an add-on.
  • People ask before the session and vote after. Pigeonhole sessions stay open outside the live event, so questions and votes don’t wait for the meeting.

What happens when people answer in the chat.

Participation jumped once the QR code was gone.

60 – 70%

90 – 95%

Attendees taking part in Virtual Approval’s virtual and hybrid events, before and after they switched to StreamAlive.

Before StreamAlive, we were using other well-known QR-based interaction tools. About 60 – 70% of people would follow a QR code. Now that all they have to do is type in the chat, we see more like 90 – 95% of participants engaging.

How StreamAlive works in your meeting.

  1. You let StreamAlive into your meeting and share your screen.
  2. Your audience types 1, 2 or 3 in the meeting chat. That’s all they do.
  3. StreamAlive counts every vote and moves the bars as they arrive.
  1. Paste your Teams or Zoom meeting link into StreamAlive and press Connect. It waits in the lobby like a note-taking app. Admit it once and it starts reading the chat.

  2. Share your screen and pick the StreamAlive window, the same way you share slides. Or present the poll from your PowerPoint deck.

This is the step people miss. Your audience can only answer a question they can see.

  3. Everyone sees your poll the moment you share. It’s a slide in your StreamAlive presentation, so there’s no code to read out and no QR code to show.

  4. They type 1, 2 or 3 in the meeting chat. Nothing to open, nothing to install.

  5. Every vote moves the bars as it’s sent, so you can talk through the result while it’s still coming in.

  6. After the session, the report shows who took part and how each question landed. Connect StreamAlive to Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot and ask what the room thought.

Illustration of the six steps. The presenter pastes the meeting link into StreamAlive and presses Connect. StreamAlive waits in the meeting lobby and is admitted, then posts in the chat that it is reading the chat. The presenter presses Share and picks the StreamAlive window, a poll appears on the shared screen, and answers typed in the chat fill the poll bars as they arrive. After the session, the report shows who took part and how each question landed, and an AI assistant can answer questions about it.

Questions about StreamAlive and Pigeonhole Live

What’s the difference between StreamAlive and Pigeonhole Live?

Where your audience answers, and what the tool is built for. StreamAlive turns what people type in the Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet chat into polls, word clouds and other visuals on your shared screen. Pigeonhole Live has people use its own web app, and is built around events with agendas and moderated Q&A.

Does Pigeonhole Live work in the Zoom or Teams chat?

Not in the chat itself. Pigeonhole’s Zoom and Teams apps open in a side panel, and people ask and vote there. StreamAlive reads the meeting chat, so people answer by sending a message.

Does Pigeonhole Live work in Google Meet?

Pigeonhole’s help center describes apps for Zoom, Teams and Webex, but none for Meet. StreamAlive reads the Meet chat.

Can I use StreamAlive and Pigeonhole Live together?

Yes. Neither depends on the other, so you can keep Pigeonhole where it does best, such as a conference with tracks and a moderated Q&A, and use StreamAlive in the sessions where you want answers in the chat.

Is StreamAlive cheaper than Pigeonhole Live?

It depends on your sessions. Pigeonhole’s free plan covers up to 100 participants and StreamAlive’s covers five. Pigeonhole’s Presenter plan is $13 a month billed yearly for up to 250 participants, and its Standard plan for events is $150 a month billed yearly. StreamAlive’s paid plans start at $100 for a pack of 4 sessions of up to 250 participants, or Pro at $75 a month billed yearly.

StreamAlive pricing
Do participants need an app, an account or a code?

Not online. With StreamAlive they type in the meeting chat. With Pigeonhole they use its Zoom or Teams app, or go to pigeonhole.at and enter a passcode. Neither asks participants to install anything or sign up.

What about in-person and hybrid events?

In a room there’s no meeting chat, so people open StreamAlive’s browser chat with a QR code or a short link and code, much as they would with Pigeonhole. Online participants keep typing in the meeting chat, and both feed the same poll.

Does StreamAlive record my meeting?

No. It joins the way a note-taking app does, and you admit it. It reads the chat so it can count answers, and has no access to your video, audio or shared screen.
