With Poll Everywhere, people get their phone out, go to pe.app and enter a join code, and then get distracted by notifications. With StreamAlive, they type in the chat.
Poll Everywhere’s Zoom and Teams apps show the poll inside the meeting, and its original version also takes text messages. Either way it’s another place to answer. StreamAlive takes the answers from the chat itself.

The fact that StreamAlive’s interactions are powered by the chat is huge for us. There’s no second screen, no apps, no QR codes. People stay focused on the session instead of figuring out the tech.

Which one fits your sessions?
Poll Everywhere is the stronger choice for text-message voting, graded lecture polls and Webex. StreamAlive is for sessions where everyone should answer in the chat they’re already in.

People should answer in the chat they’re already in.Poll
You go live on YouTube or LinkedIn.StreamAlive reads the stream’s chat, so viewers answer where they’re already commenting.
Choose Poll Everywhere if…
Some of your audience can’t get online.Poll Everywhere’s original version takes multiple-choice and open-ended answers by text message, with no Wi-Fi or data needed. StreamAlive has no text-message route.
You grade students or sync with a learning platform.Poll Everywhere runs graded competitions with a leaderboard, and its campus plans add Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard and Moodle with grade sync.
Your company meets in Webex.Poll Everywhere’s original version has a Webex app, and StreamAlive doesn’t support Webex.
You need a free plan for a bigger room.Poll Everywhere’s free plan takes up to 40 responses per poll. StreamAlive’s is for up to 5 participants.
What happens when people answer in the chat.
Participation jumped once the QR code was gone.

Before StreamAlive, we were using other well-known QR-based interaction tools. About 60 – 70% of people would follow a QR code. Now that all they have to do is type in the chat, we see more like 90 – 95% of participants engaging.
it turned my class from a handful of participants to everyone participating, whether it was the shy students or the ones who thought they were too cool to give their opinions.
Paste your Teams or Zoom meeting link into StreamAlive and press Connect. It waits in the lobby like a note-taking app. Admit it once and it starts reading the chat.
Share your screen and pick the StreamAlive window, the same way you share slides. Or present the poll from your PowerPoint deck.
This is the step people miss. Your audience can only answer a question they can see.
Everyone sees your poll the moment you share. It’s a slide in your StreamAlive presentation, so there’s no code to read out and no QR code to show.
They type 1, 2 or 3 in the meeting chat. Nothing to open, nothing to install.
Every vote moves the bars as it’s sent, so you can talk through the result while it’s still coming in.
After the session, the report shows who took part and how each question landed. Connect StreamAlive to Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot and ask what the room thought.

Now share your screen
Paste your meeting link into StreamAlive and press Connect.
StreamAlive waits to be let in, like a note-taking app. Admit it.
Once it’s in, it says so in the chat and starts reading it.
Now share your screen…
…and pick the StreamAlive window. This is the step people miss.
Everyone sees your question the moment you share. It’s already a slide in your presentation.
Your audience types their answers in the meeting chat. No codes, no links.
As answers arrive in the chat, the poll on your shared screen updates automatically.
After the session, the report shows who took part and how each question landed.
Ask Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot what the room thought.
Illustration of the six steps. The presenter pastes the meeting link into StreamAlive and presses Connect.
StreamAlive waits in the meeting lobby and is admitted, then posts in the chat that it is reading the chat.
The presenter presses Share and picks the StreamAlive window,
a poll appears on the shared screen, and answers typed in the chat fill the poll bars as they arrive. After the session, the report shows who took part and how each question landed, and an AI assistant can answer questions about it.
Questions about StreamAlive and Poll Everywhere
What’s the difference between StreamAlive and Poll Everywhere?
Where your audience answers. StreamAlive turns what people type in the Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet chat into polls, word clouds and other visuals on your shared screen. Poll Everywhere has people answer in Poll Everywhere, at pe.app or pollev.com, by text message, or in its meeting apps.
Does Poll Everywhere work in the Zoom or Teams chat?
Not in the chat itself. Poll Everywhere’s Zoom and Teams apps show the poll inside the meeting, and its Zoom app works on computers only. StreamAlive reads the meeting chat, so people answer by sending a message from any device.
Does Poll Everywhere work in Google Meet?
Poll Everywhere has no Meet app. Its 2.0 guidance is to share your whole desktop, with people joining at pe.app or by QR code. StreamAlive reads the Meet chat.
What are Poll Everywhere 1.0 and 2.0?
Poll Everywhere runs two versions side by side. The original takes votes by text message and has Zoom, Teams and Webex apps. 2.0 joins at pe.app with a code, with screen sharing for meetings and a Live app for slides. Neither reads the meeting chat.
Can I use StreamAlive and Poll Everywhere together?
Yes. Neither depends on the other, so you can keep Poll Everywhere where it does best, such as text-message voting for a room with poor signal or a graded lecture, and use StreamAlive in the sessions where you want answers in the chat.
Is StreamAlive cheaper than Poll Everywhere?
It depends on your sessions. Poll Everywhere’s free plan takes up to 40 responses per poll and its paid plans start at $10 a month billed yearly, for up to 700 responses. Monthly billing starts at $99 on its Engage plan. StreamAlive’s free plan covers five, and paid plans start at $100 for a pack of 4 sessions of up to 250 participants, or Pro at $75 a month billed yearly.
Do participants need an app, an account or a code?
Not online. With StreamAlive they type in the meeting chat. With Poll Everywhere they go to pe.app or pollev.com and enter a code, or use its Zoom or Teams app. Neither asks participants to sign up.
What about in-person and hybrid events?
In a room there’s no meeting chat, so people open StreamAlive’s browser chat with a QR code or a short link and code, much as they would with Poll Everywhere. Online participants keep typing in the meeting chat, and both feed the same poll.
Does StreamAlive record my meeting?
No. It joins the way a note-taking app does, and you admit it. It reads the chat so it can count answers, and has no access to your video, audio or shared screen.
