Polls and quizzes learners answer in the Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Google Meet chat.

Put a poll, quiz or word cloud on your shared screen and your learners answer by typing in the Teams, Zoom or Meet chat they’re already in. No second screen, no QR code, and afterwards you get a report of how much people took part.

Works where you do: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, YouTube Live, LinkedIn Live, Substack Live and Restream. Also on your PowerPoint slides.

Other tools ask learners to get their phones out, scan a QR code and wait for everyone to join, and then notifications pull them away. With StreamAlive, they type in the chat.

In a Teams or Zoom meeting, “Type in the chat.” is sent in the chat and appears in the poll on the shared screen, which asks “How do you answer in this poll?” Everyone else’s answers follow.

Learners already have the chat open, so there is nothing to join and nothing to explain twice. They answer without leaving your session, and their attention stays on you and the screen.

We used to tell people to put their phones away so they wouldn’t be distracted, then later ask them to pull them out again to scan a QR code. That never sat right with us. StreamAlive removed that contradiction completely.

How to run a poll in a Teams or Zoom training session.

  1. You let StreamAlive into your session and share your screen.
  2. Your learners type their answers in the meeting chat. That’s all they do.
  3. StreamAlive turns every answer into a poll, cloud or leaderboard as it arrives.
  1. Paste your Teams or Zoom meeting link into StreamAlive and press Connect. It waits in the lobby like a note-taking app. Admit it once and it starts reading the chat.

  2. Share your screen and pick the StreamAlive window, the same way you share slides. Or present the question from your PowerPoint deck.

This is the step people miss. Your audience can only answer a question they can see.

  3. Everyone sees your question the moment you share. It’s a slide in your StreamAlive presentation, set up beforehand.

  4. They type their answer in the meeting chat: a number, a letter or a few words. No QR code, no link, no phone.

  5. Every answer lands on your shared screen as it’s sent: bars move, words grow, quiz scores climb.

  6. After the session, the report shows how many people took part, how much more they typed during your interactions, and who was most active.

Illustration of the six steps. The presenter pastes the meeting link into StreamAlive and presses Connect. StreamAlive waits in the meeting lobby and is admitted, then posts in the chat that it is reading the chat. The presenter presses Share and picks the StreamAlive window, a word cloud question appears on the shared screen, and answers typed in the chat land in the word cloud as they arrive. After the session, the report shows who took part and how each question landed, and an AI assistant can answer questions about it.

Four ways to check your learners are with you.

Each one is a question on your shared screen that learners answer in the chat, so you can run one in the middle of a session without stopping it.

  1. Icebreaker

Open with where everyone’s joining from. People type a city or country in the chat and a pin drops on the map.

Before StreamAlive, we were using other well-known QR-based interaction tools. About 60 – 70% of people would follow a QR code. Now that all they have to do is type in the chat, we see more like 90 – 95% of participants engaging.

Questions about StreamAlive for L&D

How does StreamAlive work in a live training session?

You build your questions in StreamAlive beforehand, connect it to your Teams, Zoom or Meet session, and share the StreamAlive window like any slide deck. Learners answer by typing in the meeting chat, and their answers appear on your screen as they’re sent.

Do learners need an app, a QR code or an account?

Not online: they type in the meeting chat they’re already using. In a classroom or a hybrid session, people in the room open StreamAlive’s browser chat with a QR code or a short link and a code. Still no app to install.

What does the report show?

An overview with an engagement lift (how much more your learners typed during your interactions than between them), a chart of the chat minute by minute, replays of every result and a ranked list of the most active learners. You can download it or email it.

Can AI write my questions?

Yes. Type a topic and StreamAlive’s AI writes polls, multiple choice questions or a quiz for you to edit. Question writing works in English.

Does it work for self-paced or on-demand training?

No. StreamAlive is for live sessions, where people answer at the same moment and see the room’s answers together. It isn’t built for self-paced courses today.

Can I use it with PowerPoint or Google Slides?

Yes for PowerPoint: add the StreamAlive add-in, put a question on a slide and present in Slide Show. Google Slides can’t show live content inside a slide, so paste StreamAlive’s quick link on your slide. It opens the interaction in a browser tab, where you connect StreamAlive to your meeting and share that tab.

Is it safe to use with our company’s sessions?

StreamAlive reads the meeting chat only. It doesn’t record or access your video, audio or shared screen. It’s SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certified, and the Trust Center has the details.
