StreamAlive vs AhaSlides Answers in the Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Google Meet chat.

With StreamAlive, your audience answers polls, quizzes and word clouds in the Zoom, Teams or Google Meet chat they’re already in.

With AhaSlides, they answer in AhaSlides, at ahaslides.com or in its Teams and Zoom apps.

StreamAlive also offers a QR code, for in-person sessions. Online, it’s a distraction.

With AhaSlides, people get their phone out, go to ahaslides.com and enter an access code, and then get distracted by notifications. With StreamAlive, they type in the chat.

AhaSlides’ Teams and Zoom apps skip the code with a panel inside the meeting, but it’s still a second place to look. StreamAlive takes the answers from the chat itself.

The fact that StreamAlive’s interactions are powered by the chat is huge for us. There’s no second screen, no apps, no QR codes. People stay focused on the session instead of figuring out the tech.

Which one fits your sessions?

AhaSlides is the stronger choice for scored quizzes, a full slide editor and small-group prices. StreamAlive is for sessions where everyone should answer in the chat they’re already in.

Choose StreamAlive if…

Choose AhaSlides if…

  • Scored quizzes are the main event. AhaSlides has seven scored question types, from matching pairs to correct order, plus a leaderboard. StreamAlive’s quizzes take a number from 1 to 4.
  • You want answers that aren’t typed. People can draw, share a photo, pin a spot on an image or rank options. StreamAlive’s answers are typed in the chat.
  • You build the whole deck in one place. AhaSlides has a slide editor and templates, and imports PowerPoint and PDF files, so your content and questions live together.
  • You want a lower price for a small group. AhaSlides’ Essential plan is $8.95 a month for up to 100 participants. StreamAlive’s Pro is $75 a month for up to 1,000.

What happens when people answer in the chat.

90 – 95%

Attendees taking part in Virtual Approval’s virtual and hybrid events, before and after they switched to StreamAlive.

Before StreamAlive, we were using other well-known QR-based interaction tools. About 60 – 70% of people would follow a QR code. Now that all they have to do is type in the chat, we see more like 90 – 95% of participants engaging.

  • There are loads of digital tools you can use to increase engagement in your live online sessions. But there is one that is hands-down my favorite: StreamAlive.

  • We used to tell people to put their phones away so they wouldn’t be distracted, then later ask them to pull them out again to scan a QR code. That never sat right with us.

How StreamAlive works in your meeting.

  1. You let StreamAlive into your meeting and share your screen.
  2. Your audience types 1, 2 or 3 in the meeting chat. That’s all they do.
  3. StreamAlive counts every vote and moves the bars as they arrive.
  1. Paste your Teams or Zoom meeting link into StreamAlive and press Connect. It waits in the lobby like a note-taking app. Admit it once and it starts reading the chat.

  2. Share your screen and pick the StreamAlive window, the same way you share slides. Or present the poll from your PowerPoint deck.

This is the step people miss. Your audience can only answer a question they can see.

  3. Everyone sees your poll the moment you share. It’s a slide in your StreamAlive presentation, so there’s no code to read out and no QR code to show.

  4. They type 1, 2 or 3 in the meeting chat. Nothing to open, nothing to install.

  5. Every vote moves the bars as it’s sent, so you can talk through the result while it’s still coming in.

  6. After the session, the report shows who took part and how each question landed. Connect StreamAlive to Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot and ask what the room thought.

Illustration of the six steps. The presenter pastes the meeting link into StreamAlive and presses Connect. StreamAlive waits in the meeting lobby and is admitted, then posts in the chat that it is reading the chat. The presenter presses Share and picks the StreamAlive window, a poll appears on the shared screen, and answers typed in the chat fill the poll bars as they arrive. After the session, the report shows who took part and how each question landed, and an AI assistant can answer questions about it.

Questions about StreamAlive and AhaSlides

What’s the difference between StreamAlive and AhaSlides?

Where your audience answers. StreamAlive turns what people type in the Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet chat into polls, word clouds and other visuals on your shared screen. AhaSlides has people answer in AhaSlides, at ahaslides.com or in its Teams and Zoom apps.

Does AhaSlides work in the Zoom or Teams chat?

Not in the chat itself. AhaSlides’ Teams and Zoom apps open a panel inside the meeting, where people respond. StreamAlive reads the meeting chat, so people answer by sending a message.

Does AhaSlides work in Google Meet?

AhaSlides’ help center describes apps for Zoom and Teams and a shared-link method for Webex, but no Meet app. In Meet you share your screen and people join with the access code or QR code. StreamAlive reads the Meet chat.

Can I use StreamAlive and AhaSlides together?

Yes. Neither depends on the other, so you can keep AhaSlides where it does best, such as a scored quiz with a leaderboard, and use StreamAlive in the sessions where you want answers in the chat.

Is StreamAlive cheaper than AhaSlides?

For small groups, usually not. AhaSlides’ free plan covers up to 50 participants, Essential is $8.95 a month billed yearly for up to 100, and Pro is $17.95 for up to 2,500. StreamAlive’s free plan covers five, and paid plans start at $100 for a pack of 4 sessions of up to 250 participants, or Pro at $75 a month billed yearly.

Do participants need an app, an account or a code?

Not online. With StreamAlive they type in the meeting chat. With AhaSlides they use its Teams or Zoom app, or go to ahaslides.com and enter an access code. Neither asks participants to install anything or sign up.

What about in-person and hybrid events?

In a room there’s no meeting chat, so people open StreamAlive’s browser chat with a QR code or a short link and code, much as they would with AhaSlides. Online participants keep typing in the meeting chat, and both feed the same poll.

Does StreamAlive record my meeting?

No. It joins the way a note-taking app does, and you admit it. It reads the chat so it can count answers, and has no access to your video, audio or shared screen.

Free for sessions of up to five people. No card needed.
